TriSports Finds a New Home in Oregon
Author: Gary Wallesen
The iconic triathlon brand will be operated as a division of Velotech, Inc.
Portland, OR—Bicycle industry retailer Velotech, Inc. has acquired the TriSports.com brand, an Arizona-based triathlon retailer specializing in swim, bike, and run gear. The new TriSports.com website launched this week in place of Velotech’s existing triathlon brand, Athletes Lounge. Velotech also operates BikeTiresDirect.com and the multichannel retailer, Western Bikeworks.
“This is an exciting time for triathletes in the Pacific Northwest,” said Gary Wallesen, Athletes Lounge General Manager. “We will continue the TriSports rewards program, and have already moved customer accounts and loyalty points over to our system. We’ve relaunched the TriSports.com website with the goal of offering a wide range of great products at the best prices, a wealth of resources for training and competing, and exceptional customer service. ” The Athletes Lounge retail store is located in Tigard, a suburb of Portland, and will rebrand as TriSports’s brick-and-mortar headquarters. Previously, TriSports operated out of Tucson, Arizona and was run by founders Seton and Debbie Claggett. “We are confident that TriSports will be in good hands, in particular due to Garys insight and experience,” said Claggett, who plans to remain in contact with the new management during the transition.
With extensive experience as a competitor, coach, and business owner in the industry, Wallesen has been involved in triathlon since the 1980s. "Since before I can remember, well before I began racing 15 years ago, Gary has been at the heart of the triathlon community in Portland. It is incredibly exciting for me to imagine that passion magnified through a fusion of Athletes Lounge and TriSports," added pro triathlete Eric Lagerstrom.
Velotech, Inc. is dedicated to providing excellent service and great products for the avid cyclist, whether they be commuters, triathletes, road cyclists, cyclocross competitors, or mountain bike enthusiasts. The company has been named to the Portland Business Journal’s list of the 100 fastest growing private companies for four consecutive years, and is one of the most popular internet retailers of road cycling products.<< back to Member News
